About the BALPA Benevolent Fund

The BALPA Benevolent Fund (BBF) is a registered charity that provides vital support to current and former aviators, BALPA employees, and their families. Established in 1963 by the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA), the fund helps individuals in need through financial assistance, practical support, and funding for education or retraining.

The BBF supports pilots, flight engineers, navigators, winchmen, and BALPA employees with various challenges such as health issues, redundancy, or financial hardship. The fund is managed independently by a team of trustees with a wealth of experience in the industry, ensuring that all contributions go directly to aiding those in the aviation community.

"I would like to pass on my thanks and appreciation to BALPA, who assisted me financially throughout a difficult period of my life due to health issues and being unable to fly. I lost my medical on thankfully a temporary basis, following a mass being detected on my lung, which turned out to be a blockage only. BALPA introduced me to the Benevolent Fund, set up to help pilots who are in need of assistance"

Our Assistance Process

The process of seeking assistance from the BALPA Benevolent Fund is straightforward and designed to provide effective support to those in need. We understand the challenges faced by aviators and their families, and our goal is to make the process as smooth as possible.
